Should You Start a Blog?

Like...What website should I use? (I have some ideas.)Can I do this for free? (Yes, but I don't recommend it.)How do I get started? (Learn from my mistakes here.)Is anyone going to read what I write? Do I care if they do? (We're not going to answer these today, but we'll get there.)I started my very first blog for free on Blogspot in 2010... and now I suddenly feel very old. When I started, blogs were like online journals (Shoutout to LiveJournal, y'all. Had one of those too!), and I had never even considered blogging as a business. Obviously, things have evolved since then. Blogging is rampant, and even my grandma knows what an "Influencer" is.So if anyone can blog, why should you?Well. There are a zillion of reasons to blog, but here are a few of my favorites:
- You figured out some skill, trick, or information, and you just can't keep it to yourself anymore.
- You're that person your friends always go to for advice and tips.
- You want to share your message and connect with others.
- You want to build a business around writing and working for yourself.
- You have a product or service that you want to share.
- You see yourself with a blog in the future.
- You want to exercise your creative side.
- You like to write.
All of these reasons are equally valid because when it comes down to it, the only test that your blog has to pass is the "do you want to?" test. If you want this, make it so.So.Do you want to?If the answer is yes, then you're in the right place. This series will get you started with all of the tips and tricks I learned in my own blogging journey. I'll make it easy as pie pre-made frozen pie. Promise.
Here's what we're going to cover:
Part 1: Get a domain, get hosted, go live. Part 2: Find a theme and define your brand. Part 3: Select plugins and add ons. While I recommend starting from the beginning, feel free to skip around to what you need. There is SO much information out there about blogging, and it's easy to get overwhelmed - I know I did. So in this series, I really tried to streamline to just the basics with some pro tips along the way. I'll dive into more detail with future posts and on my email list too. I sure hope this is helpful for you! If you have any specific questions, feel free to drop them in the comments below!P.S. If you're still on the fence about blogging, maybe pin this for later?
